The Eric Batchelor Cup is run by the South Island Army Reserves unit and honours a Second World War hero. A sporting round robin features a 5km run, volleyball, touch rugby and tug-of-war at the showgrounds and netball at Victoria Park. There are six teams entered at this stage,. one from Waimate High School, one from Timaru Army Cadets and four from the Army Reserves unit.
