The longest-running event in Waimate district, the 143rd Waimate Caledonian Sports day brings Scottish heritage alive in the heart of Waimate. Pipers can be heard and Scottish dancers fill the stage. Runners, cyclists and speed skaters participate throughout the day, along with piping competitions, and children's and senior athletics.
Waimate staged its first Highland Games in 1875.
